Free central heating installation for city homes
Residents in Peterborough whose properties may be eligible for a free central heating installation as part of a new scheme, are being urged to come forward.
Peterborough City Council’s Home Service Delivery Team has teamed up with eight other authorities and our consortium partner AgilityEco to secure more than £6.5 million of funding from Warm Homes Fund alongside other sources. This will enable almost 1,500 households to get a new FREE* first time central heating system, in homes that are heated by inefficient electric storage heaters, room heaters or open fires.
Running alongside the already established Local Energy Advice Partnership (LEAP), this is the first time that a central heating scheme is primarily aimed at owner occupiers and private landlord rented properties, however approximately 10 per cent of the funding can also be used in social housing.
Residents that may be eligible include those with a low household income or those in receipt of means-tested benefits. Properties which qualify for a central heating installation will also receive free* connection to the gas grid where required and may also be able to benefit from other secondary measures where appropriate.
Councillor Peter Hiller, Peterborough City Council’s cabinet member for housing, said: “We would appeal to anyone who thinks their property is eligible for a free installation to get in touch right away, “It goes without saying that it is a wholly worthwhile opportunity as winter kicks in. The scheme also confirms our commitment to ensuring that homes across the city are of the highest standard.”
Gearóid Lane, AgilityEco's Chief Executive Officer, said: “We’re delighted to have helped these nine councils to secure this valuable grant funding, enabling hundreds of people in Peterborough to replace their expensive, inefficient heating systems with new and efficient gas central heating. We’re looking forward to working with the councils to deliver this valuable help and support to those that need it most. We urge residents without gas central heating to visit the website or call the free helpline number and get their applications in before the coming winter.”
